Christmas trees for local schools alongside new homes in Islington

Islington Council and contractor Mulalley have helped to spread Christmas cheer by buying Christmas trees for two local schools.

Hungerford and The Bridge primary schools neighbour the site of a new community centre and housing development in Holloway.

The council is building a new community centre, and 23 new homes.

The development will be made up of energy efficient family-sized units, with 13 council homes for social rent, four for shared ownership and six available for market sale.

The site is located next to Hungerford and The Bridge primary schools, who received Christmas trees from Mulalley this week. Council staff and Mulalley staff visited the schools to help children decorate the trees.

Executive member for housing and development, Cllr Diarmaid Ward, said: “There is high demand for housing in London and the council is committed to building new homes for our residents.

“I’m very pleased that we can rebuild this popular community centre whilst also providing a number of affordable new homes.

“We will continue to maintain a good relationship with Hungerford and The Bridge Schools throughout the development process, and I hope they will enjoy their new Christmas trees.”

Mulalley Operations Director John Moore said: "Mulalley is always keen to give back to the communities where we are working.  We were very happy to provide the Christmas trees to bring some festive cheer to these local schools."

Islington is committed to 2,000 new affordable homes between 2015 and 2019, including 500 new council homes. 242 affordable homes are currently under construction.
