Council support for victims of the Finsbury Park terrorist attack

Islington Council is coordinating a package of support to help victims and their families directly affected by Monday morning’s terrorist attack in Finsbury Park.

The council’s package of assistance includes:

  • Emotional support for dealing with trauma, including counselling

  • Financial help and benefits advice, for example for people left unable to work

  • Housing options, for example for those needing to organise mobility adaptations to their homes

  • Help with expenses, such as travel costs for families who are visiting loved ones in hospital

  • Translation services

  • Legal advice

The council is offering a single point of contact to make it as quick and easy as possible for victims and their families to access the support and services they need.

The offer of support is being communicated to victims and their families through the police’s dedicated Family Liaison Officers and through representatives of both Muslim Welfare House and Finsbury Park Mosque. The offer is available to all victims and their families, whether they live in Islington or elsewhere.

Cllr Andy Hull, Executive Member for Finance, Performance and Community Safety, said:

“We will do everything in our power to help those people directly affected by Monday morning’s cowardly and hateful terrorist attack on our community.”

“Our heartfelt sympathies are with the victims and their families. They may need help with a range of practical and emotional issues and our priority is to ensure that they know that help is at hand.”

“This terrorist attack sought to divide us, but it has instead brought us closer together. Our community is strong and our work continues to strengthen it further.”

Residents who might have witnessed the attack or are feeling anxious about it are also encouraged to seek support.  Victim Support can be contacted on 08081689111 or at www.victimsupport.org.uk .
