Couples say 'I do' on Valentine's Day

Islington Council is welcoming no fewer than nine couples to the Town Hall this Saturday 14 February.

A busy winter of weekend weddings will peak on Valentine's Day this Saturday, as 18 people fill the council's chambers with romance as they say 'I do'.

The Grade II listed building on Upper St, N1, provides four ceremony rooms - including the 150 seat circular Council Chamber for weddings 'in the round'.

The elegant, white Portland Stone façade and steps provide a great backdrop for photographs while the venue is just yards away from dozens of restaurants, pubs and bars for reception celebrations large and small.

Cllr Andy Hull, Islington Council's executive member for finance and performance said:

"On behalf of Islington Council, I'd like to welcome all this year's couples tying the knot at Islington Town Hall - including those getting married on Valentine's Day.  I hope they all have a truly amazing day.

"It's a great venue that's bursting with character and our friendly and efficient registrars do their very best to help make it a day to remember."

The Town Hall welcomed 1,954 couples last year for ceremonies including Civil Marriages, Civil Partnerships and renewal of vows.

Islington's registrars run an open day in September to showcase the venue, function rooms, and local wedding suppliers and caterers.

They also offer a free Town Hall wedding ceremony - with choice of venue room - to one lucky couple each year, via a prize draw.
