(L-R Billy Wells Head of Neighbourhood Services Francis Oduro Estate Caretaker and John Walters Pearly King of Finsbury)

Do you know a caretaker or concierge who has really made a difference?

Has your caretaker gone the extra mile to keep your estate sparkling clean throughout lockdown? Does your concierge always take the time to have a chat and share a kind word with residents who might be struggling?

Islington Council is looking for this year’s caretaker and concierge of the year – and is asking residents for their nominations. This annual award goes to the caretaker and concierge who has gone that extra mile and deserves recognition for their hard work.

Councillor Diarmaid Ward, Executive Member for Housing and Development said:

“Please get nominating! During the coronavirus pandemic I know our estate staff have worked extremely hard, often going above and beyond to make sure vulnerable or isolated residents are getting the help they need. Our caretakers are amazing role models and some have encouraged young people on their estate to take up apprenticeships, training and jobs.

“We’re very lucky to have such dedicated, hardworking estate staff here in Islington and we know our residents think so too. So if you know a local caretaker or concierge who has been doing a brilliant job this year, please nominate them so we can give them the recognition they deserve!”

If you think your caretaker or concierge deserves this award you can nominate them via Islington Council’s website www.islington.gov.uk/caretakeraward or by emailing Chris Crook Chris.Crook@islington.gov.uk or by writing to Neighbourhood Services at 222 Upper Street, N1 1XR.

Nominations close on Friday 14 August and a judging panel will decide the winners based on the entries. The winners will be announced in September.
