Eighth anniversary of Finsbury Park terror attack

Today marks eight years since the Finsbury Park terror attack, a senseless act of violence that sought to divide our community.

Makram Ali – a beloved husband, father and grandfather – tragically lost his life in the attack, while many others were injured and deeply affected by the events of that night.

This anniversary is a solemn reminder of the pain caused by hatred, but also of the strength and the resilience of our community.

The attack sought to sow division and fear – it failed. Instead, it brought people together in solidarity, compassion, and shared purpose.

Islington has always been – and will always be – a place where we stand up against all forms of hatred and discrimination. Our commitment to building a borough rooted in equality, justice, and mutual respect is as strong and important as ever.

Together, we will continue to work to ensure that our borough is a place where everyone feels safe, valued, and supported.
