Festive lights set to make Islington shine this Christmas

Islington is set to sparkle this Christmas with festive lights being switched on amid a host of activities on our high streets – including visits from Father Christmas himself.

Christmas lights switch-on events will bring festive cheer to Finsbury Park, Nag’s Head, Archway and Caledonian Road later this month – all offering something slightly different.

Each event will boast live music and several hours of entertainment, plus face-painting and activities for children.

In Finsbury Park, youngsters can get creative preparing costumes for a switch-on parade. At Nag’s Head, there will be street entertainment and funfair rides.

Father Christmas will also be coming to both Archway and Caledonian Road. The latter will also be offering an array of Christmas market stalls and craft activities, live music, nibbles and a children’s fancy dress competition in a ‘winter wonderland’ theme.

Cllr Asima Shaikh, executive member for economic and community development, said: "The Christmas lights celebrations are always a sparkling highlight in the annual calendar of our town centres – and this year they offer something for everyone.

“I would like to thank the local businesses and voluntary groups who give their time and money to help turn these wonderful festive events into reality.

"So please put the dates in your diary and head over with your family and friends to enjoy the festive atmosphere and start the countdown to Christmas.”

The lights will be switched on at 4.30pm at each event - except for Caledonian Road, which takes place at 5pm.

The events are as follows:

- Wednesday, 25 November – Finsbury Park (Fonthill Road), 3pm-8pm;

- Thursday, 26 November – Nag’s Head (outside Nag’s Head shopping centre), 3pm-8pm;

- Friday, 27 November – Archway (Archway Mall), 3pm-8pm;

- Saturday, 28 November – Caledonian Road (Tilloch Street), 10am-5pm.

Specific activities and events may vary on the day depending on the weather, so for the latest information before you set off, please see www.islington.gov.uk/christmas.
