Former children's services chief named in Queen's Birthday Honours

Eleanor Schooling, Ofsted’s national director for social care, will be made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in recognition of her services to children and families.

Eleanor was named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for her work, including as director of children’s services at Islington Council.

Eleanor said: "I’m both grateful and thrilled to receive this award. Being the director of children’s services in Islington was one of the best and most rewarding jobs I have ever had – it gave me the opportunity to make a genuine, positive change to children’s lives.

"Of course none of that would have been possible without the support of a great team, to whom I’m also very grateful.

"I’m determined to continue this work at Ofsted, where I feel we are making changes that will improve the lives of children across the country."

Lesley Seary, chief executive of Islington Council, who worked closely with Eleanor for a number of years, said: “Eleanor was a strong champion for children and families in Islington, and somebody who was committed to delivering excellent services.

“As corporate director for children’s services she oversaw a period of great transformation and improvement in the services, as well as helping to drive excellence in children’s services across London.

“I am delighted for Eleanor and this recognition is thoroughly deserved.”
