Free adult learning courses for unemployed residents

Unemployed Islington residents or parents with children in Islington schools are being encouraged to think about signing up for a free adult and community learning (ACL) course in the New Year.
Every year Islington Council offers a range of free ACL courses – from CV workshops to becoming an eBay entrepreneur; from making jewellery to working in the construction industry.

Islington Council courses – some of which offer childcare services – are hosted at a large number of venues across the borough and can be a valuable stepping stone into employment, voluntary work, or further education.
Islington Council’s executive member for economic and community development, Cllr Asima Shaikh, said: “We’re committed to helping unemployed residents find the right job.

"With subjects ranging from childcare to sign language to English as a second language, our ACL courses are always a great opportunity for local people to boost their confidence, develop their skills, find work – or just to try something new.”

One local resident, who attended a previous course, said: “I now know how to job search with confidence and I feel more confident applying for jobs online”.

Interested? Find out more at www.islington.gov.uk/acl or by emailing the council at acl@islington.gov.uk. You must be over 19, unemployed, low waged, or receiving benefits to enrol.
Council course enrolment days will be on Thursday 7 and Friday 8 January 2016, between 9.30am and 4pm at the Arsenal, 3Corners, and First Steps Learning Centres.
