Free festive feast for older residents

Islington’s older residents are warmly invited to apply to attend a special Christmas lunch, on Wednesday 9 December 2015 at the famous Islington Assembly Hall on Upper Street.

Local people over 70 can put themselves forward for up to 100 places at the annual festive feast – hosted by the council as a way of celebrating the huge contribution older people make to the borough.

Local supplier, Hillside Clubhouse, will be preparing and cooking the food – which the Mayor and councillors will serve on the day – and there will be music from the Highbury Fields School band and choir.

Deputy Leader of Islington Council, Cllr Janet Burgess, said: “Older Islingtonians make an invaluable impact on our community and this is our chance to say ‘thank you’ for all that they do.

“While I’m afraid that we can only accommodate a few at our annual festive feast, my heartfelt thanks goes out to all.”

The festive feast has been running for almost five years, after council scrapped its own party in favour of catering to the borough’s older citizens instead.

Places are strictly limited again this year; admittance to the event is strictly invite-only.

Prospective attendees should call 020 7527 3012 or email patricia.niclas@islington.gov.uk by Friday 27 November for an application form.

All names will go into a ballot. Those successful will be informed, in writing, by Wednesday 3 December.
