Free festive feast for older residents in Islington

Islington’s older residents are warmly invited to apply to attend a special, free Christmas lunch on Tuesday 12 December.

Local people aged 70 or over can put themselves forward for a place at the annual festive feast – hosted by the council as a way of celebrating the huge contribution older people make to the borough.

The event, held at the Islington Assembly Hall on Upper Street, will include a lunch served by Islington’s Mayor, Cllr Una O’Halloran, and councillors. Plus there will be festive music and entertainment to get everyone in a party mood!

Deputy Leader of Islington Council, Cllr Janet Burgess, said: “Our older residents deserve a thank you for the invaluable contribution they make to our community so this is our way of saying ‘thank you’ for all that they do.

“I am looking forward to welcoming our guests to a lovely, heart-warming event.”

The festive feast began in 2010 after the council scrapped its own party in favour of catering for the borough’s older citizens instead.

Up to 100 places are available for Islington residents aged 70 and older. To apply please call Islington Council on 0207 527 2525 between 9 and 5pm Monday to Friday as soon as possible.

Local businesses are being asked to support this worthwhile event by donating towards the cost of the lunch, or offering suitable raffle prizes. Any business able to help out is asked to contact the council on the number above.
