Adrian and David Market Trader of the Year 2025

Greengrocer and paella specialist win Islington’s Market Trader Awards 2025

Two much-loved Chapel Market traders named Islington’s 2025 Market Traders of the Year, honouring their dedication, quality, and character.

David Twydell, who runs a greengrocer stall and sells Christmas trees during the festive season, was praised for his beautifully presented fruit and vegetables, sourced in season and at great value. David said: “It was lovely to win the award and be voted for by so many of my loyal and loving customers. It means a lot and that’s why I enjoy doing what I do.”

Adrian Serrano, the culinary talent behind Chapel Market’s famous paella stall, has now won Food Trader of the Year for the third-year running. Adrian said: “It’s a really big appreciation from the people of Islington who keep choosing us again and again. This is our third prize in a row, and we are very happy.”

David and Adrian both receive £250 off their stall rent.

Cllr Bell-Bradford, Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Inclusive Economy, Culture and Jobs, said: ““Our markets are the beating heart of Islington’s communities, and traders like David and Adrian make them truly special. Their passion, quality, and connection with customers show why markets matter – they bring people together and offer great value products, fresh produce, fantastic food, and a real sense of community.

"Huge congratulations to both winners – and thank you to all our traders who keep Islington’s markets thriving.”

The Market Trader of the Year competition was open to traders directly licensed by Islington Council, including traders at Camden Passage, Chapel Market, Exmouth Market and Whitecross Street – as well as street traders in other locations across the borough.

To help aspiring entrepreneurs take their first steps into business, Islington Council offers market trader training courses through the Adult Community Learning team. The programme equips people with the essential skills, confidence, and know‑how needed to thrive as local traders. Several graduates have already gone on to become regular fixtures at our vibrant markets, bringing new energy to the heart of our market trader community and adding growth to Islington’s local economy.

Full details of all Islington Adult Community Learning courses can be found at: adultlearning.islington.gov.uk. Details of the next Market Trader course will be available online in spring 2026
