Have a green christmas - recycle your tree!

Islington residents are being asked to make this a green Christmas and recycle their Christmas tree, once the festivities are over.

The council has set up a range of options to make it easier to recycle trees, wherever residents live in the borough.

Drop-off points in parks are available between 30 December – 20 January 2018:

· King Square Gardens

· Barnard Park, Charlotte Terrace

· Rosemary Gardens

· Highbury Crescent, near playground entrance

· Elthorne Park

· Wray Crescent (park end)

· Spa Fields (off Northampton Road)

· Tufnell Park, Campdale Road

· Paradise Park, Lough Road/Mackenzie Road entrance

The Household Reuse and Recycling Centre, Hornsey Street also accepts green waste and Christmas trees all year round.

The council will collect Christmas trees from council housing estates on 6, 13 and 20 January. Residents should contact caretakers for details of collection points. Residents on other estates should bring their tree to one of the drop off points or check with their landlord.

Residents in street properties should put their tree on the edge of their property for collection on their recycling day after the 6 January.

Flats above shops must put their tree out at the normal recycling collection point on the 6 January.

Residents are being asked to be responsible and not dump trees on pavements or roads.

Cllr Claudia Webbe, executive member for environment and transport, said: "We’re helping residents to dispose of their Christmas trees easily and safely following the festive season.

“By recycling their tree, residents can save money that can be spent instead on important local services, help the environment and help keep our parks looking fresh in 2018.

“Where possible, we encourage residents to leave their tree at one of the many drop-off and recycling points in the borough.”

Trees should be stripped of all decorations and, if using park disposal sites, left in the signposted and enclosed tree collection areas.
