Islington carer through to national care awards finals

An Islington care worker, who has dedicated the last 30 years of her life to looking after older residents, is through to the finals of the Great British Care Awards.

Sue O’Dell – who is the Deputy Team Leader at New Park Day Centre for older people, many of whom have Alzheimer’s and dementia – was the winner of the London regional heats in November 2015. She now goes on to compete against the finalists from all nine regions.

Deputy Leader of Islington Council and executive member for Health and Wellbeing, Cllr Janet Burgess said, “Islington carers like Sue work incredibly hard to ensure that local, older residents can lead happy, healthy, and independent lives.

“Sue’s nomination is a testament to her dedication and years of service, for which we are very grateful.

“Good luck, Sue. We all have our fingers crossed!”

The national winner will be announced on 20 May 2016 at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham.
