Islington commemorates Remembrance week

Islington residents are invited to attend Islington’s annual Remembrance parade on Sunday, 12 November, to honour those who lost their lives in war.

The parade along Upper Street starts at 10am from outside Union Chapel in Compton Terrace. The Mayor, councillors and other officials will join the parade at the Town Hall, which will then proceed to Islington Green for the inter-faith service. A two-minute silence will take place at 11am and wreaths will be laid.

Local organisations including Scouts, Guides and St John’s Ambulance will also join the parade at the Town Hall.

Residents are also welcome to attend other events happening across the borough to mark Remembrance week.

At 12noon on Sunday, 12 November there will be a service at the Spa Green Memorial in Rosebery Avenue, and a Community Remembrance Event will take place in the Royal Northern Gardens, Manor Gardens, at 1.30pm.

On Thursday, 9 November there will be a ceremony at Islington and Camden Cemetery. The Mayors, Chief Executives and Leaders of Islington and Camden councils will lay wreaths at the Islington and St Pancras Civilian War Memorials.

Cllr Gary Poole, Islington Council’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “The Remembrance events being held in Islington give us the opportunity to remember those who sacrificed their lives in conflict.

“All residents are invited to join us at one of the events happening across the borough throughout Remembrance week, to pay thanks to Islington’s servicemen and women.”
