Islington Council builds 16 new council homes in Holloway

Islington Council completes 16 new council homes in Holloway

Islington Council has today launched 34 new homes – including 16 homes for council rent – on Dalmeny Avenue, in Holloway.

The new flats have been delivered as part of Islington Council’s commitment to delivering 2,000 affordable homes by 2020, including 500 new council homes.

The flats for council rent include a mixture of 1, 2, 3, and 4 bedroom homes, and three are fully wheelchair accessible – designed to house people with specific needs, such as people with disabilities or mobility issues. All 34 flats are rated highly energy efficient, making maximum use of space for solar panels, and all are connected to cost-saving, efficient communal heating.

The development also includes a secure central courtyard with new plants and trees.

Today’s celebration also marked the completion of work on the new Cat and Mouse Library, which formed part of the major construction project and is also connected to the communal heating network. The new library, which opened to the public last month, includes new computers, study space, and new books for adults, children and teens.

Cllr Diarmaid Ward, Executive Member for Housing and Development, said:

“London is in the grip of a major housing crisis and Islington Council is doing everything that it can to help tackle the problem.

“The council has committed to building 2,000 affordable homes by 2020, and these brand new, energy efficient, high quality homes are yet another step towards completing that goal.

“I’d also like to thank all the local residents and community members involved in this project for their patience, support, and feedback throughout the construction process.”

Higgins Construction was the construction contractor on the project.

Paul Cooke, New Business Director of Higgins Construction said:

“Today’s event represents a significant milestone in the completion of Bramber House and we are extremely pleased to have worked closely with Islington Council to deliver the brand new library and 34 new homes, including 16 brand new council homes.”
