Islington Council welcomes launch of the Night Tube

Islington Council is welcoming the launch of the Night Tube and a boost to the borough's night bus services, starting tonight.

Transport for London's expanded service will be a bonus for residents, with four Tube stations in the borough included in the initial roll-out of stations open through Friday and Saturday nights - Finsbury Park, Highbury & Islington, Tufnell Park and Archway.

Two bus routes serving Finsbury Park station will also be made 24-hour - the W3 and W7.

Cllr Claudia Webbe, executive member for environment and transport, said: “I have always supported the idea of the Night Tube, as long as it does not impact on a good night’s sleep for residents living near the stations.

“The opening of the Victoria Line over the weekend – with the Piccadilly Line and part of the Northern Line to follow in the autumn – will be a huge asset to Islington’s night time transport infrastructure, helping people to get home quickly and safely after a night out.

“I am also pleased that TfL has committed to maintaining the frequency of the N91 night bus and others, relied upon by many residents working shifts, and extended the W3 and W7 bus routes from Finsbury Park into 24-hour services.

“This further strengthens the local night bus network and will help to keep London running as a 24-hour city.

“Alongside TfL we will keep a close eye on the Night Tube to ensure it works for everyone, encourage them to expand the service to more Islington stations and ensure there is no loss of bus services.”
