Islington Health and Social Care Academy: Discover rewarding careers at free virtual jobs fair

A free jobs fair for anyone who would like to find out more about careers in health and social care will be held virtually next week. Employers at the fair will have live job opportunities and participants can sign up for interview.

There are so many different career paths in this sector, from registered nurse to care worker, activities co-ordinators to catering, and much more in between.

More than a dozen employers will be at the virtual careers fair, being held from 2pm to 7pm on Wednesday, 21 October via Microsoft Teams.

The fair and employers will help people find out more about the roles in this growing industry, and discover which career options appeal to them.

Cllr Asima Shaikh, Executive Member for Inclusive Economy and Jobs, said: “The pandemic has hit a lot of people hard; many Islington residents have lost their jobs or have just finished college and found themselves in one of the toughest jobs markets for years.

“We are determined to build back better, and are doing everything in our power to create a strong, grass-roots economy that works for local people.

“One industry that is growing, and offers some fantastic opportunities, is the health and social care sector. We have partnered with major employers, providers and institutions to ensure that local people are at the front of the queue for these local jobs.

“If you are interested in a future in the health or social care sector, this virtual jobs fair is simply a brilliant opportunity – don’t miss it!”

The jobs fair has been organised by the Islington Health and Social Care Academy, a partnership between Islington Council and key institutions including Whittington Health NHS Trust and other hospital trusts, Capital City College Group, and local care providers to support unemployed residents and school and college leavers to understand the career paths available.

Each of the 14 employers and providers will have a 20-minute slot to present the roles available, describe what they are looking for in potential candidates and the career paths they could follow, as well as details of the jobs’ hours and pay. Residents will then be able to ask the employers any questions, with some employers offering guaranteed interview slots for interested residents.

Previous annual jobs fairs have been very successful in finding local people rewarding roles in this sector. In addition, this financial year the council’s iWork team has specialists who have helped nearly 60 Islington residents get into work in health and social care.

The virtual jobs fair is being hosted by Capital City College Group.
