Islington observes one minute silence in memory of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

On Saturday, 17 April, The Mayor of Islington Cllr Janet Burgess, in her capacity as first citizen of the borough, observed a one minute’s silence on behalf of the people of Islington to mark the death of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. 

The Mayor was joined by Leader of the Council Cllr Richard Watts, Deputy Leader Cllr Kaya Comer-Schwartz and Chief Executive Officer Linzi Roberts-Egan.

Cllr Janet Burgess, The Mayor of Islington, said:

“The Duke of Edinburgh spent most of his life in service to the country, including serving in the Second World War. Our thoughts and condolences are with Her Majesty the Queen and her family at this difficult time; we understand what the loss of one's lifetime partner means, and we hope that the good wishes of the people of the country are of some comfort to her at this moment.”
