Islington Stands United Against Hate Crime

One of Islington’s greatest strengths is its diversity.

We are resolutely clear that our borough is no place for hate, and we stand united together against any form of racism, discrimination or oppression in Islington and in our wider society.

The senseless and horrific alleged anti-Semitic hate crime that took place at Highbury Corner on Tuesday 26th February is deeply shocking and completely unacceptable. Our thoughts and best wishes go out to the victim, who we wish a speedy recovery.

We are pleased that the Police have responded swiftly to this incident and that the Safeguarding Unit is investigating it as an incident of hate crime.

However, it is clear that the scourge of hate crime remains a significant challenge.

We will continue to work across and with the broad range of communities in our borough to challenge intolerance and to promote positive relationships, which the overwhelming majority of people in Islington support and hold dear.

We strongly encourage local people and organisations to sign the Islington Anti-Hate Crime Pledge to show their support for our common cause by visiting www.islington.gov.uk/hatecrime.

We stand united against hate crime in all its forms.
