Islington the final stop on CityRead author’s journey through London

Author Ben Aaronovitch will round off an epic tour of London with a visit to Islington on 30 April as part of the CityRead London celebrations.

CityRead London takes place every year during April, and this year’s chosen book is Aaranovitch’s Rivers of London. The novel is set in the capital and kicks off in Covent Garden where a grisly crime has been committed. Our hero, PC Peter Grant, soon realises things are a little unusual when the only witness to come forward turns out to be a ghost…

The author, who attended Holloway School, will be visiting every London borough, and Islington will be Aaronovitch’s final stop on 30 April when he visits Central Library to talk about his book.

There will also be activities for children taking place throughout the Easter holidays that are connected to the book and have the theme of bridges and rivers. Children will have the chance to complete a rage of fun activities and win prizes.

Rosemary Doyle, head of Islington’s libraries service, said: “We are delighted that Ben will be visiting us on the final day of his tour of London. Rivers of London is a unique and quirky book and all our libraries have copies – and we’ve even given extras to our library book groups so they can get involved too.”

CityRead London is an annual month-long celebration of reading in the capital, which aims to engage London's residents, workers and visitors with reading for pleasure, focused around the shared reading experience of a single book.

Islington’s libraries will also be celebrating World Book Night later in the month on 23 April, and if you join your local library by this date you will be in with the chance of winning amazing prizes, including an iPad or a tour of the Emirates Stadium.
