Key appointments will help Islington Council deliver a fairer borough
Islington Council has made three key appointments to help drive forward its ambitious work to rebuild a fairer Islington.
Amy Buxton-Jennings becomes Partnership Director, Fairer Together, and joins the council’s Corporate Management Board. Amy will lead the innovative Fairer Together partnership that brings together public sector partners and community organisations to tackle inequality, redesigning services around the needs and aspirations of local people with a strong focus on all-age early intervention. Amy has been working in Islington for the last 18 months and brings over 20 years of strategic leadership experience developing ideas, programmes and services that deliver positive change for disadvantaged children, families and communities.
Stephen Biggs becomes Corporate Director, Community Wealth Building, and joins the council’s Corporate Management Board. Stephen will lead Islington’s work to tackle economic inequality by building a sustainable, inclusive and locally-rooted economy, with assets and spend across the borough aligned to these ambitions, with a key objective around securing good jobs for local people. Stephen has been instrumental in helping lead on defining and shaping the new Community Wealth Building strategy, and brings strong transformation, operational and commercial leadership experience to the role.
John Everson joins as Director of Adult Social Care, from Haringey Council, and will lead Adult Social Services to ensure the most vulnerable and marginalised people in Islington get the right support, when they need it, to live the lives they want to live as independently as possible. He has extensive experience as a senior leader in adult social care roles, and brings a strong strategic vision, which puts people at the heart of services and decision-making.
Linzi Roberts-Egan, Islington Council’s Chief Executive, said: “We’re determined to make Islington fairer, and to create a place where everyone, whatever their background, has the same opportunity to reach their potential and enjoy a good quality of life.
“I’m excited about the pioneering and ambitious work that is underway at Islington and am looking forward to welcoming Amy, Stephen and John to our strong and talented senior management team.
“Each of these key roles has a vital role to play in helping us deliver our vision of a fairer Islington for our residents. All three people are exceptional leaders, who share our values and will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our borough.”
