Letter: online services and Macs

I’m sorry to hear that Ms Ann Smith has been having difficulty accessing council services online (‘Everything must be done online’, Letter Friday 8 April).

However, I’d like to reassure Tribune readers that there is nothing to stop users of Apple devices or the Safari browser from making payments to Islington Council; our payment services are compatible with all modern browsers and devices. Thousands of people successfully use Safari and Apple devices every month to access My eAccount and make payments to Islington Council.

In Ms Ann Smith’s case, a council employee incorrectly advised her that an unsuccessful transaction, which she was trying to make, was a result of her using an Apple device. This is not true, and we apologise that this advice was not accurate.

We’re committed to providing residents with good services, on a tight budget. Achieving this means saving money by encouraging residents to access council services digitally. To do this, we will continue to test and transform how we present our services online. Residents can expect to see improvements to our website over the coming months, making information clearer and transactions easier.
