Liz Dickson is nominated for social worker of the year award

A social worker from Islington Council has been selected as a finalist in the Social Worker of the Year Awards 2016 as a result of their outstanding work with vulnerable adults.

Liz Dickson has been nominated for the Newly Qualified Adult Social Worker of the Year prize. Liz joined Islington as a newly qualified social worker and has a  unique role working to support residents that are referred to out-of-borough hospitals. She plays an important part in ensuring that people are resettled from hospital safely and comfortably.

Liz is committed to getting the best outcomes for the people she works with and has helped many people to return home with the right level of support.

Results will be announced at an exclusive awards ceremony which will take place in London in November. She is one of 78 finalists across 15 categories and the winners from each category will compete against each other to be named the Overall Social Worker of the Year 2016.

The prestigious awards ceremony is the leading celebration of its kind in the social care sector, and recognises the achievements and successes of the profession’s most innovative and dedicated social workers.

Executive member for Health and Social Care, Janet Burgess, said: “Caring for Islington’s most vulnerable is a top priority and hardworking staff like Liz are the people who make a huge difference to resident’s lives.

“Liz’s success demonstrates Islington Council’s determination to attract the most talented staff to work in Islington, and we wish her the best of luck in the finals.”

James Rook, Managing Director of the awards’ headline sponsor Sanctuary Social Care, said: “This award shines the spotlight on an individual early in their career as an adult social worker. Once again, this category received a huge number of entries and all the finalists have shown an ability to manage complex caseloads whilst making a real difference to the people they work with.”
