Make your voice heard – register to vote!
Islington residents have just two weeks left to register to vote in the London Mayoral elections on 5 May 2016.
You can vote in the 5 May 2016 elections for the Mayor of London and London Assembly if you:
- live in London
- will be at least 18 years old on the day of the elections
- are a British citizen, a European Union citizen or a Commonwealth citizen who has or does not require leave to remain in the UK
Residents must apply to be on the electoral roll by 18 April to ensure they have a say about who they think should lead London.
Islington Council’s Chief Executive, Lesley Seary, said: “It’s simple: if you don’t register to vote, your voice won’t be heard. It doesn’t take long to do and there are lots of other important benefits to it too, besides participating in our democracy.”
Being on the electoral roll is not just about engaging in politics; it can also help to boost residents’ credit ratings and make it easier to rent or buy a property.
