New executive member for economic and community development

Cllr Asima Shaikh is Islington Council's new executive member for economic and community development.

The new portfolio includes responsibility for employment and employment services, creating jobs, and relationships with the voluntary sector and community groups.

Cllr Shaikh said:  "I'm excited to become Islington Council's new executive member for economic and community development.

"Employment is a top priority for Islington, and I look forward to helping create better services to get people into work, and working with business to secure opportunities for our residents.

"Local charities and community groups play a vital role in making Islington a better and fairer place for everyone, and we will continue to work closely with them to support residents at a time of big Government cuts."

Cllr Shaikh was elected in May 2014 as a councillor for Finsbury Park.  She has worked for the Greater London Authority, several London boroughs and central Government and has wide experience of project management and policy development.
