New Islington park opens beside the Regent's Canal

Local residents and councillors have celebrated the opening of Islington’s newest public space – Canalside Square.
Sited next to the Regent's Canal, Canalside Square includes grassy mounds for picnics, seating that maximises the path of the sun, seasonal planting – and a new mosaic by local artist Tess Hunkin.
It was built as part of the Packington Estate redevelopment and has been a collaboration between Hyde Housing, Islington Council, Atkins and Rydon. The park was officially opened on November 17.
Cllr Claudia Webbe, Islington Council’s executive member for environment and transport, officially opened the square and said: “This is a fantastic new space for local people, and we look forward to it becoming as loved and well-used as Islington’s other open spaces.”
