New range of summertime activities launched

Islington Council is today launching an exciting new range of recreational activities and summertime fun and games for local young people by extending its successful ‘LaunchPad’ and ‘Summerversity’ programmes.

In a move that will see both schemes come to Waterside on the Packington estate in the centre of Islington, the council is offering new opportunities for young people, aged 13 to 24, to help them broaden their horizons and explore new experiences.

These activities include music and radio production, DJ skills, and First Aid training, as well as the chance to design and develop their own innovative projects, with support from council staff, over the course of the summer.

The activities are scheduled for specific nights of the week to take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, from 7.00pm to 9pm in August and 7.30pm to 9.30pm in September.

Islington Council’s executive member for children, young people, and families, Cllr Joe Caluori, said: “I’m delighted that we’re offering yet more free or low-cost activities to capture the imaginations of local young people and help to keep them active, engaged, and inspired during the summer break.”

“Alongside these fantastic special events, all of our excellent youth hubs and adventure playgrounds will also be open as usual, so children and young people have somewhere safe to spend time during the day and evenings.”
