Mayor's Civic and Ben Kinsella Award Winners 2024 - alongside the Mayor of Islington and Sophie Cloutterbuck from London Metropolitan University (LMU)

Nominate a local community hero for the Ben Kinsella Award or the Mayor's Civic Award this year

People across the borough are being invited to recognise the positive contributions of amazing community heroes, as nominations for the Ben Kinsella and Mayor’s Civic Awards open.

The Ben Kinsella Award, named in memory of the late Ben Kinsella, specifically recognises the young people aged 18 or under who are making a meaningful impact in the borough. Any Islington resident under the age of 18 is eligible to be nominated.

And the Mayor’s Civic Awards highlights volunteers, campaigners, and fundraisers who make an exceptional contribution to their local community. Individuals or groups can be nominated for a Civic Award, but nominees must not have previously received the award for the same work.

For more information about each award and to make a nomination please visit www.islington.gov.uk/civicawards. The deadline for all nominations is 5:00pm on Monday, 27 January 2025.

Mayor of Islington, Cllr Anjna Khurana, has said: “We all have our own stories of someone special in our community who selflessly dedicates themselves to helping others. Whether they are a volunteer, or a carer, a community organiser, or an inspiring young person helping those around them – their dedication represents the very best of Islington.

This year, I want to shine a light on those amazing local heroes who make Islington the diverse and welcoming borough that it is. Let us make sure that they receive the recognition they deserve by nominating them for a Civic Award or a Ben Kinsella Award.”

Residents are encouraged to nominate those who have made a significant positive contribution to the borough, particularly in the areas of:

  • Helping Islington become a cleaner, greener, and healthier place
  • Supporting and nurturing Islington’s children and young people
  • Fostering safety, connection, and inclusivity within Islington’s communities
  • Assisting residents through the cost-of-living challenges
  • Volunteering in the local community

The winners will be revealed during a formal ceremony in March 2025 at Islington Assembly Hall. The Mayor will present the awards, along with certificates and vouchers, to acknowledge the winners' exceptional efforts.
