Packington Children’s Centre celebrates second ‘outstanding’ Ofsted

Ofsted has given an Islington Council-run children’s centre its seal of approval for the second time running with a glowing report and an “outstanding” rating.

Packington Children’s Centre, based at New North Community School in Popham Road, was rated “outstanding” across the board by Ofsted, which undertook an Early Years inspection in August.

Cllr Joe Caluori, executive member for children and families, said: “Congratulations to all the staff and the parent community at the centre, who can be rightly proud of this achievement.

"The centre is a beacon of good practice and is helping give the next generation of Islington residents the best start in life.”

The recently published report found the “highly qualified” staff were “excellent role models” for the children, providing them with “a range of exciting and interesting activities” which enable them to make “excellent progress”.

The centre’s 14 staff were also praised for giving “the highest priority to keeping children safe”, and inspectors noted they were “fully committed to driving improvement”.

Ana Sevilla, head of centre, said: “This wonderful Ofsted report is a big achievement, which would not have been possible without Packington’s hard-working and committed team doing their best every day.

“It has been a busy summer and everyone at Packington is excited for the year ahead.

“We are not resting on our laurels; with a new nursery at Bentham Court now up and running, we are looking forward to extending our offer to even more local children.”

Over the summer, Packington Children’s Centre extended and developed its childcare provision with a new nursery site at Bentham Court, off Ecclesbourne Road.

It provides high-quality care and education for children from birth to five years old, and enables Packington Children’s Centre to deliver a further 36 full-time places to meet the growing demand for quality provision in the community.

Packington is also one of a range of nurseries and childminders in Islington offering free childcare of 570 hours per year for eligible two-year-olds.
