Pay to stay - statement

James Murray, Islington Council's executive member for housing and development, said: “We strongly oppose the Government’s Housing Bill, including their plans for ‘pay-to-stay’ which, if introduced, would have a devastating impact on Islington and which are an attack on working families. We will continue to fight the Housing Bill, but if it becomes law and the Government forces councils to introduce ‘pay-to-stay’ we will do everything we can to support tenants who would be hit by rents they simply cannot afford, helping them to avoid the prospect of losing their job or their home.”
