Remembrance Sunday commemorations in Islington

On Sunday 9 November, Remembrance Sunday will be marked by commemorations including a parade, a Service of Remembrance and a wreath-laying ceremony – to honour the service and sacrifice of Armed Forces, veterans, and their families. 

Cllr Jason Jackson, the Mayor of Islington, councillors and representatives of local Armed Forces and civilian organisations will begin proceedings at 10.45am, for the service of Remembrance on Islington Green. The service will include a two-minute silence, prayers led by faith leaders, military bugle calls, and an opportunity for attendees to lay wreaths at the Islington Green War Memorial. 

The commemorations will be followed by two other services held later across the borough: 

• Residents may gather at Spa Green Garden, near Rosebery Avenue and Gloucester Way, for a Remembrance service at 12:00pm midday. 

• A community Remembrance ceremony will be held at Royal Northern Gardens, Manor Gardens, adjacent to Holloway Road, will begin at 1:30pm. 

Cllr Jason Jackson, Mayor of Islington, said, “I invite residents of all faiths, cultures and generations to join us this Remembrance Sunday as we stand honouring the courage of those who gave their lives for our freedom. 

“By coming together, we honour their sacrifice, support those who continue to serve today and commit ourselves to carrying forward the values they defended, unity, justice and hope for all who call this borough home.” 

The Mayor of Islington continues to support the British Legion’s Poppy Appeal, which aids former and serving Armed Forces members and their families. Poppies can be purchased at the Town Hall reception or the council’s Customer Contact Centre at 222 Upper Street.
