Residents invited to Islington summit on crime and safety

Islington residents, community groups and young people are invited to this year’s Crime and Safety Summit to have their say on how the council and the police tackle crime involving young people – both as victims and offenders.

The summit, hosted by the Safer Neighbourhood Board in partnership with Islington Council and the Metropolitan Police, will be held on Saturday 14 March between 10am-1pm at Islington Assembly Hall.  All are welcome, and lunch and refreshments will be provided.

The summit will include presentations and panel discussions to explore the reality of youth crime and give young people the chance to speak about the impact of crime and what it is like growing up in the borough.

During the summit, attendees will hear from young Islington residents, Dominic Fenton, Chair of the Safer Neighbourhood Board, Cllr Paul Convery, Islington Council’s executive member for community safety and Chief Superintendent Gerry Campbell, Islington Police Borough Commander.

Attendees can find out about the progress and priorities for Islington’s Safer Neighbourhood Board and have the opportunity to stand for election as part of the board and ask panel members questions about how to tackle crime.

Cllr Convery said: "Tackling youth crime is a top priority for police and the council. We all have a part to play, and the involvement of young people themselves is most important of all.

“We have to make sure that young people are a key voice within the borough and feel as though they have a stake in the future of Islington.”

The event at Islington Assembly Hall on Saturday 14 March is free, runs from 10am to 1pm and is open to everyone. To find out more information or secure a place at the event please register by emailing csputeam@islington.gov.uk
