Statement - Finsbury Park terror attack sentencing

A statement in response to the sentencing today (February 2, 2018) of Darren Osborne to life in prison, with a minimum term of 43 years, for murder and attempted murder in the Finsbury Park terror attack of June 2017.

Cllr Richard Watts, leader of Islington Council, said: “The Finsbury Park terror attack had a massive impact on our community, and we welcome today’s sentence and the judge’s clear message that Osborne’s hateful crimes were a terrorist attack. There is no place for terrorism of any kind in our society, and action must be taken to tackle extremists who radicalise people towards terrorism.

“Osborne’s cowardly crimes caused great harm, and continue to cause great suffering. We again pay tribute to the courage and strength of those who were injured and affected by this attack, especially the family and friends of Makram Ali, and we will continue to offer them help and support. This attack failed to drive our community apart, and has instead brought us closer together.”
