Statement - Go Islington

[STARTS]

Cllr Claudia Webbe, executive member for transport and environment, said: “I was delighted to see thousands of people, of all ages, filling Highbury Fields in the sunshine on Saturday, discovering a new favourite sport, enjoying the park and all that our Go Islington festival had to offer.

“The huge breadth of activities and stalls was a buzzing showcase for the best of active and family-friendly Islington, from martial arts to handball and cheerleading to cycling.

“Its success demonstrates that residents and visitors alike really do ‘Love Islington Parks’, and I was happy to see it return once more to Highbury Fields as the Olympics moves to Rio.

“But this isn’t the end of it – as well as great spaces for relaxing, all sorts of activities and events can be found taking place in these green and healthy backdrops over the summer, including the Summerversity and Launchpad programmes for children and young people.”
