Statement - Holloway free school site: DfE purchase

[STARTS]
An Islington Council spokesman said: “The council has a strong community of schools; all secondary and maintained special schools and 91 per cent of primary schools are rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.
“Islington has a detailed plan in place to project the number of school places needed in the coming years. There is no need for a new secondary school in Highbury, where there are already two high-performing and respected schools.
“We encourage early dialogue with groups who seek to open new schools in Islington, and are disappointed that on this occasion there was no consultation with the council prior to the purchase of the site.”
