Thank someone special - nominations open for the Mayor's Civic Awards & Ben Kinsella Award 2019

Unsung local heroes across Islington can get deserved recognition and thanks for their hard work with the launch of the Mayor's Civic Awards and Ben Kinsella Award 2019.

Every year Islington celebrates the huge contribution people make to their local community and the positive change made to the lives of others. These actions often go unrewarded and the awards are a chance to recognise the hard work of individuals, families and groups.

The Mayor's Civic Award Scheme acknowledges volunteers, campaigners and fundraisers who are the heart and soul of Islington's thriving local community. The Ben Kinsella Award, given in memory of Ben Kinsella is a special youth award that recognises the contribution of an inspiring young person. It is open to residents under 18 that have gone above and beyond in their volunteering activities, sports, music or campaigning - amongst many others.

If you would like to nominate someone to receive either a Civic Award or the Ben Kinsella Award use the link  online at https://islington.gov.uk/mayorsawards and complete the application form. The closing date for nominations is Friday 18 January 2019.

Mayor of Islington Cllr Dave Poyser said: "It is the people of Islington that truly make our borough the welcoming and caring community it is. The awards are a chance to show that the borough appreciates and recognises people's selfless commitment and dedication. It is a chance to come together to celebrate and thank those who work tirelessly for the benefit of others.

"I am so pleased nominations are open and I cannot wait to hear about all the great contributions Islington residents are making to their local community. Please spread the word and nominate anyone you know who goes that extra mile!"

Award recipients will be announced on 14 March 2019 at a glittering ceremony in Islington's Assembly Hall. The Mayor will present those honoured with a framed certificate.
