Mick Gilgunn is elected Tollington ward councillor

Tollington by-election result

Mick Gilgunn has been elected as Labour councillor for the Tollington ward, following a by-election on Thursday, 1 July.  

The number of votes cast for the four candidates in the Tollington by-election were as follows:  

  • Vanessa Margaret Carson – Conservative Party Candidate – 127
  • Mick Gilgunn – Labour Party – 1,243
  • Jane Nicolov – Liberal Democrats – 94
  • Jonathan Ward – Green Party – 730

There were 7 rejected ballots.  There was a total turnout of 22 per cent from an electorate of 9,903.

The poll took place following a vacancy arising from the resignation of ward councillor Richard Watts.  

The result means that the council now comprises:

45 Labour councillors 

1 Conservative councillor 

1 Green Party councillor  

1 Independent councillor
