Una O'Halloran is Islington's new Mayor

Councillor Una O’Halloran has become Islington’s new Mayor.

The Caledonian ward councillor was sworn in at the Annual Council meeting on Thursday 11 May. Her husband, Ray, will be her consort.

Having grown up in the borough, Cllr O’Halloran currently lives in Bunhill. She has been a Caledonian ward councillor since being elected in 2014 and served as Deputy Mayor last year.

Each Mayor chooses a specific charity to support and raise funds for throughout his or her year of office. Cllr O’Halloran’s charity is the Angel Shed Theatre, an inclusive theatre company providing opportunities for children and young people across Islington to participate in performing arts.

Cllr O’Halloran said: “I am so pleased to become Mayor of Islington and I am looking forward to throwing myself into the role.

“Islington is a fantastic borough and the Mayor has the privilege of meeting a wide range of local people and community organisations, experiencing first-hand some of the great work that they do.

“I am delighted to be supporting the Angel Shed Theatre as the Mayor’s charity this year. They offer the chance for children from different backgrounds to be involved in drama and ensure that theatre is accessible for all.”

Una will be sharing her experience on the Mayor’s official twitter account @IslingtonMayor

Hillrise ward Councillor Dave Poyser is the Deputy Mayor.
