Vote now in Islington Teen Read and win prizes

Teenage readers are being asked to vote for their favourite author by 12 February to get the chance to win book tokens and books.

The Islington Teen Read offers young people aged 11-18 the chance to say which new book made the biggest impact on their lives over the last year.

This year's shortlist comes from titles suggested by pupils in Islington’s schools. Voting will take place in schools, libraries and at Waterstones bookshop on Islington Green, N1.

The novels are:
  • Frozen Charlotte by Alex Bell;
  • The Danger Game by Kevin Brooks;
  • Apple and Rain by Sarah Crossan;
  • Zom-B Family by Darren Shan;
  • All That Glitters by Holly Smale;
  • Girl Online by Zoe Sugg;
  • The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson.
Everyone aged 11-18 can take part in the vote - the winning novel and prize draw winners will be announced at a special “by invitation” event at Waterstones book shop on 1 March, to coincide with World Book Day (Thursday 3 March).  We hope to have a special guest author will talk about their work and writing for teens.

Cllr Asima Shaikh, Islington Council's executive member for health and wellbeing said:

 "For many young people, books, and some books especially, can have a powerful and profound impact on their lives.

“Our Teen Read Vote is the perfect platform for local young people to share and celebrate this, as well as to win free prizes and even meet a guest author.”

"As a community, we can always do more to encourage our young people to read and open themselves to a world of education and enjoyment."

The Islington Teen Read Vote is one part of the Islington Reads programme of events and activities designed to get Islington reading.
