Dignity In Care award-winners celebrate with the Mayor of Islington cropped

Nominations now open for Islington’s Dignity in Care Awards

Carers across Islington will be recognised for the quality of support they provide to people who draw on care, as nominations for the 2025 Dignity in Care Awards open.

This year there are eight awards with three new award categories, including Outstanding Achievement in Adult Disability or Mental Health Support, Personal Assistant of the Year, and Care Leader of the Year.

Anyone can make a nomination, with submissions open now until Sunday, 20 July, and we really encourage you to nominate.

Nominations open as we celebrate Carers Week this week, which highlights the importance of unpaid carers and the challenges they face.

Last year, judges chose six winners from more than 60 nominations, many of which were made by people who draw on care and their families.

This year’s winners will be announced at a special award ceremony taking place at Islington Assembly Hall on Monday, 22 September.

Maximilian Shopay, who won Shared Lives Carer of the Year, welcomed an 18-year-old autistic man into his home a year ago.

He said “It's great to be acknowledged, it's great to be nominated, and it's even more amazing to win the award.”

Cllr Dr Sara Hyde, Executive Member for Health and Social Care, said: “The Dignity in Care Awards are a wonderful way to show carers across the borough how much we appreciate them.

“These awards celebrate the positive impacts paid and unpaid carers bring our residents, how they empower others and the immense dedication they bring to their role.”

“It’s an opportunity to pause and say ‘thank you’ – to show them that we see them and we value the hard work and dedication they put into supporting the people they care for to live the lives they want.”

This year’s award categories are:

  • Most Compassionate Carer in Homecare, and Residential and Nursing Care Homes
  • Outstanding Achievement in Adult Disability or Mental Health Support
  • Shared Lives carer of the year
  • Personal Assistant (PA) of the year
  • Carer of the Year (Unpaid)
