The new Highbury Pool was officially opened yesterday (Tuesday, 18 May) by Islington Mayor Cllr Janet Burgess, nearly three years after the facility was hit by a devastating fire.   

Islington Council has extended consultation on a proposed support payment scheme for survivors of abuse suffered while placed by the council in one of its children’s homes from 1966 to 1995.

Islington is launching a new, free, dementia-friendly health walk and inviting people to become Dementia Friends in Dementia Action Week (17 May - 23 May).

Consultation is open until May 18 on Islington Council’s proposed support payment scheme for survivors of abuse suffered while placed by the council in one of its children’s homes from 1966 to 1995.

Following a year of unprecedented challenges, Islington has honoured its unsung community heroes and volunteers for their hard work and dedication. Winners were presented with their awards by the Mayor of Islington, Cllr Janet Burgess, in socially distanced visits and meetings at the Town Hall.

With just two weeks left until voters in Islington go to the polls on 6 May, Islington Council is urging voters to get ready to vote.

Islington’s indoor leisure facilities and five local libraries will be reopening today, 12 April, as part of the UK’s gradual easing out of coronavirus lockdown restrictions.
