Islington Council will mark Remembrance Sunday with a series of small socially distanced ceremonies to commemorate those who lost their lives in two world wars and more than 70 other conflicts.

Two landlords have been fined a total of £110,500 after being convicted of managing Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) with dangerous and sub-standard conditions, in a successful prosecution by Islington Council.       

Some of the borough’s most creative, colourful horticultural creations have been recognised in the Islington in Bloom 2020 awards.     

Islington Council has partnered with leading weapons surrender charity Word 4 Weapons, to install six new knife bins around the borough. The bins provide a safe and anonymous way for people to dispose of knives, reducing the risk of them being used as a weapon or to cause harm.

Cllr Richard Watts, leader of Islington Council, said: “As coronavirus cases keep rising in London and the Government’s Test, Trace and Isolate system continues to flounder, we need to do everything we can to help protect the health of our families, friends and loved ones, and to protect our NHS and care workers.  As the virus spreads, all the evidence shows there will be more serious ill-health, hospitalisation and deaths, as we so sadly saw earlier this year.

Six of Islington’s green spaces have been recognised in the Green Flag Awards, which celebrate the most beautiful, well-managed sites in the country.

Islington Council is marking Clean Air Day today (Thursday, 8 October) by announcing the arrival of six new e-bikes as part of ongoing efforts to create a greener fleet.
