Islington Council is continuing to take bold action to make streets safer, greener, and healthier for all by creating its fifth people-friendly streets neighbourhood, in Amwell. 

Long-serving councillor and former deputy leader Janet Burgess was sworn in as Islington’s mayor for 2020-2021 at last night’s (24 September) Annual Council meeting.     

Islington Council has launched a new programme with commitments to challenge inequality, racism and injustice as a key part of its work to make Islington a fairer place.

Cllr Richard Watts, leader of Islington Council, said: “It’s clear that coronavirus cases are rising significantly in London, and across the country.  As the virus spreads, all the evidence shows there will be more cases of serious ill health, hospitalisation and deaths.

Islington Council is celebrating some of the borough’s unsung heroes by announcing the winners and runners-up of its Caretaker and Concierge of the Year awards for 2020.
